How to Start Regression Testing?

Practical QA guidance for mobile apps, websites, games, SaaS products, automation, testing cost, and outsourced software testing decisions.

Software maintenance includes various things like updates on functionality, recent updates, error correction, deletion of repetitive things etc. By doing all these things, it would be possible that main functionality would get affected. Even if you do small changes then it can make whole thing worse and main function can get completely modified. There are numerous possible ways through which regression testing can be performed namely:

  • Retest all segments of the program
  • Regression test selection
  • By assigning priority to various test cases that are been developed earlier

Retest All: in this type of software testing, all software modules are being checked from beginning. This is time taking as well as expensive.

Regression Test Selection

  • Test suits being partially tested for the software testing.
  • Some categories can be also prepared based on scenario namely 1) reusable test cases 2) Obsolete cases etc.
  • Re-usable test cases can be used for the succeeding test cases.

It should be also noted that priority assigned to test cases is also very important. There are some aspects that are considered before making any final decision like impact of that portion on the business, critical aspects and functionalities that are used frequently.
